John Malcolm and Karl S Williams

A double-bill of two of the most starting musicians in the country and an intoxicating journey through instrumental mastery, great songs, transcendent vocals and all the layers of human emotion and experience………

John Malcolm & Karl S. Williams. Who could want for a better evening of music!

JOHN MALCOLM

John Malcolm is a Brisbane institution and the inspiration that underpins much of the musicianship and gig culture of Brisbane. Everyone went to John Malcolm gigs…. at The Embassy, The Story Bridge Hotel, The Treasury….. and the list goes on and on. His musicality and musicianship is legendary. His mastery of the guitar, second to none. And his voice can put you on the floor. He is the elder statesman!

We welcome John Malcolm to Dust Temple for the first time. This will be a very special treat! A nostalgic journey back to the days of the great singer songwriter & prolific gig musicians.

KARL S. WILLIAMS

Karl S. Williams is one of the most loved musicians on the Gold Coast. A true artist: multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, visual artist and poet. An artist that you never saw coming! A genre defying and multifaceted musician, with a voice that takes your breath away, for whom music is a vocation and the solution is, TO LOVE MORE.

Karl’s music is steeped in the swamp water of the cane country of Northern NSW, the landscape of his childhood. His songs are a distillation of life, love and the human condition. Timeless and deeply rooted in tradition, yet ever conversant with the present. As a performer, he is at once beautifully vulnerable and transcendent, but what makes Karl truly remarkable, is that he is unafraid. With complete humility, he wears his heart on his sleeve, he speaks universal truths and he traverses boundaries. This is blues, roots, folk and rock .. and Americana, if you will … but not at as you know it. A Karl S. Williams performance is frequently referred to as a visceral and ‘spiritual experience’, leaving an audience slightly altered in the best way possible.

So good it might even save your life. Noel Mengel, review of Karl S Williams’s debut album Heartwood [2014].
