Saturday Morning Sounds – Okmattcollins

Okmattcollins, also known as the frontman of Australian indie-rock band WHARVES, over that last 20-months has seen COVID-19 claim multiple UK and Australian tours, festivals and at times even the ability to write and record in the one place with his bandmates.

This hasn’t slowed him down as he is released his debut EP Friday the 12th of November. Five songs that show a gentler, vulnerable and intimate songwriter in contrast to the upbeat dancey tracks of WHARVES. Recorded and mixed by Steven Schram (Paul Kelly and San Cisco), all instruments you hear were played by Collins.

Matt brings us a direct and authentic sound by honouring the way the songs were written, on an acoustic guitar sitting on the floor of a Bangalow sharehouse. At times the EP can remind you of Josh Pyke, Jeff Buckley and early Radiohead with beautiful imagery mixed with poetic statements that give a candid glimpse into okmattcollins’ hopes and fears.
