Shereen – Film screening followed by Q&A with Max Walker and Hasiba Ebrahimi
Exclusive screening of ‘Shereen’ an extraordinary film written and directed by ‘almost local’ (Murwillumbah) award winning filmmaker, Max Walker. Shereen follows the struggles and triumphs of a single mother living in Afghanistan. A powerful and inspiring journey with deep insights into this difficult existence. Shot entirely on location in Kabul 2015.
With many of the team who created Shereen still stranded in Kabul and now under Taliban Rule, this story has become more poignant than ever.
After the Taliban took control of the country on August 15, 2021, they have rolled back women’s rights advances and media freedom– the foremost achievements of the post-2001 reconstruction effort.
All proceeds from the screenings of Shereen go to its cast and crew and other Afghan filmmakers now in hiding in Afghanistan. The film is screened with their permission, despite enormous risk. We hope it assists secure their safe passage out of the country.
There will be a Q&A session following the screening with Director Max Walker and Afghan actor Hasiba Ebrahimi.
